Michele Pergola
DIRECTOR OF LANGUAGE PROGRAMS
Michele Pergola was born in Rome in 1975. After graduating in Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature at the University "La Sapienza" in Rome, he took a master's degree in photojournalism at the Roman School of Photography, studying with Riccardo Venturi and Michael Hackerman, among others. He is an internationally published photojournalist, fine art photographer, and poet.
Since 2017, he has been residing in Philadelphia, where he works as a dedicated language teacher at the America-Italy Society of Philadelphia. During this time, he has gained a reputation for his passion and expertise in teaching Italian, becoming a key figure in the society’s educational offerings.
His work has involved not only teaching the language but also promoting Italian culture and fostering cross-cultural exchange among students of various backgrounds.
In June 2024, he assumed the position of Director of Language Programs, a role that has expanded his responsibilities significantly. As Director, he oversees the overall organization and management of the America-Italy Society’s language school, ensuring the smooth operation of all Italian language courses, ranging from beginner to advanced levels. His leadership extends beyond just the classroom, encompassing the coordination of seminars, workshops, and professional development programs for both instructors and students.
Furthermore, he is responsible for the teaching of Italian in both public and private educational institutions, building partnerships and developing curricula that align with modern pedagogical standards. Under his guidance, the language school will grow in both scope and reputation, reinforcing its place as a center of Italian language and cultural learning in Philadelphia and beyond.
